A: For many students–yes! The act of rewriting notes (preferably the same day the notes were taken) has several benefits. First, it allows students to review the information when it is still fresh in their minds. This way they can add details that they remember, make the notes more organized (such as an outline), and add visual clues such as highlighting, etc. If they find missing information or things they don’t understand, it gives them the opportunity to clarify with the teacher the very next day when the class discussion is still probably on the same topic. Lastly, the physical act of rewriting (and THINKING about the information as you do it) is a great way to learn and prepare for the next day.
