A: Good question! It is all A.D.H.D. (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)—whether you have the “H” or not! According to our diagnostic manual, psychologists diagnose all people with an attention disorder with ADHD but include one of three presentations: Predominantly Inattentive, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive, or Combined Presentation. We are also required to specify the severity level of a client’s ADHD as Mild, Moderate, or Severe. So, the formal diagnosis might be something like “Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder—Predominantly Inattentive Type (Moderate).” Now that’s a mouthful!
